ASIAN Carmakers Corp. (ACC), the official importer and distributor of BMW cars and motorcycles in the country, is confident of increasing its car sales this year on the back of a robust domestic economy.
ACC executive director for sales and marketing Glen Dasig said the company is hoping to exceed the 19 percent growth of car sales or 792 car units sold last year by expanding its dealership base in the country and by bringing in new models that suit the preferences of younger executives.

Dasig said the 19 percent growth last year kept them as the dominant premium automotive brand in the Philippines, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI).
He said the surge of the country?s economy at 6.4 percent and 5.9 percent in the first and second quarter, respectively, has sustained the optimism and confidence of the market in buying high-end car brands.
Prices of BMW cars range from P2 million to over P11 million.
Dasig said that last June, BMW posted the highest sales of 106 units in just one month, allowing them to capture 41 percent of the market for June.
?It was on this month that the government kept on highlighting the resilience of the Philippine economy,? Dasig said on Tuesday.
Auto sales in the first seven months of the year increased by seven percent to 87,377 units from a year earlier, reports of Campi said. The gain was due to the ?strong economic indicators as well as the influx of numerous new model introductions during the first semester of the year.?
Raising forecast
Due to favorable economic conditions, Campi has raised its forecast to 185,000 units by yearend from then target of 180,000 units.
Some 400 BMW units, Daisg said, were sold from January to August this year.
According to the company, the upward trend of the BMW sales in the first semester this
year was driven by the ?solid performance? of its two important car models the 3
Series and the 5 Series.
ACC provided a fleet of BMW 5 Series vehicles during the recently held 45th ADB Annual Governors? Meeting, the country?s biggest economic event hosting for this year. The firm recently launched the All-New BMW 3 Series which has two variants: the 328i, featuring a new four-cylinder petrol engine with TwinPower Turbo technology that sets a ?new benchmark for driving dynamics and fuel efficiency?, and the 320d, known for its ?high-performance and clean and economic diesel engine.?
Dasig was in Cebu to lead the re-launching of the Autowelt BMW showroom in Nivel Hills Lahug, now managed by Markane Goho, who is also president of Kia Cebu.
He said Cebu has remained a vibrant market for BMW.
To mark the re-launch of the newly-renovated dealership, ACC unveiled the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, the first four-door coupe in the company?s history and the ?perfect embodiment of aesthetics, sportiness, comfort and luxury.?
Expanding base
ACC is also expanding their dealership base in the country. The firm inaugurated yesterday the Autobahn BMW Dealership in Bacolod, the company?s seventh dealership in the country.
It also recently held a groundbreaking ceremony in Auto Allee BMW at the Eton Centris in North EDSA which is set to operate next year.
ACC is a wholly-owned Filipino company under the Alvarez Group of Companies. ACC-BMW is supported by the BMW Group regional office for Asia in Singapore through BMW Asia Pte. Ltd.
